Congratulations to all our students who qualified and attended the 2022 State Event event held at San Marcos High School on April 30. State qualifying artworks were assessed by jurors and many McCallum student artists received a IV Rating — Exemplary and were named All-State Artists by TAEA and VASE. The artwork created by these students will be featured on the VASE website. Two McCallum students received the highest honor for their artwork: the Gold Seal Award. Gold Seal winners received a Gold State Medallion and their artwork will be exhibited in a variety of venues across the state, culminating with the Gold Seal Exhibition at the annual TAEA Fall Conference. Only 150 art pieces are selected from the state of Texas.
Congratulations to:
Sage Edwards and Lily Greendyk for each receiving a gold seal award. (AISD received 4 of these awards in the state- the other 2 are from Bowie/1 and LASA/1- Congratulations to them as well!)
This year, students participated in hands-on workshops, sketching opportunities, and competed for scholarship money. Students were also eligible for memorial scholarships based on the merit of their artwork.
We are proud to announce that 3 students from McCallum received monetary award scholarships:
- Callan Spence received the $500.00 Bill Bagley Memorial Scholarship for “Fever Dream.”
- Ivy Christie received a 200.00 scholarship for high achievement in the state scholarship workshop.
- Lily Greendyk received a 100.00 scholarship for high achievement in the state scholarship workshop.
Students will receive their checks/money this week.
All of us art teachers and the McCallum community are so proud of all our visual arts students. This has been another challenging year, but as true knights, our students and faculty demonstrated their ability to be resilient and achieve despite adversity. Thank you Mac community for all your support. The arts in our school and community will not thrive without your continued support and voices. Next year, we anticipate even more challenges but we know you have our backs! Love to you all.
See you at next year’s VASE and congratulations to the Class of 2022~
