AC Update

Dear McCallum community,

Earlier today, I shared information about challenges with our air conditioning in some areas of the school. Thank you to everyone who generously donated fans to keep our students and staff comfortable during the repairs. Overall, we had 23 fans donated!

Thankfully, our Austin ISD Facilities Maintenance and Construction Management teams have been working diligently to resolve all outstanding HVAC issues quickly as possible. As of today, the following issues have been identified and are being addressed:

  • Small Gym Area (Roof Top Units 2 & 3): We recently experienced an issue where the main power cables to the roof top units, which service the small gym, were damaged/stolen. Austin ISD electricians rewired these units yesterday to bring them back online immediately.
  • Rooms 106 & 108: Repairs to the ductwork in this area are actively underway as part of the Construction Management 2022 Bond Project. This work is moving quickly and is expected to be resolved very soon. Austin ISD teams are in the process of providing temporary cooling in these spaces until the duct work is repaired.
  • Rooms 140, 142, & 144: A work order was submitted on August 24 and the Austin Facilities Maintenance team has been working overnight shifts to complete the necessary ductwork repairs, which require the space to be clear of students and staff for access and safety. We anticipate this to be completed by this Saturday.
  • P-1: The air conditioning unit is waiting on a part that has already been ordered. As soon as the part arrives, the Facilities Maintenance team will complete the installation. We have moved the class to a temporary space until the repair is complete.

Thank you for your patience this week. I know this isn’t ideal, especially with the Texas heat. We’re focused on working closely with the Austin ISD Facilities Maintenance and Construction Management team to address these issues.

Thank you,

Andy Baxa
